I hope that you enjoy the warmth of spring after a long winter.
What are your plans in the new season of the year?
I have been finishing up the last part of creating Joanne Studio, and I have also been creating a beautiful and new Joon Bear.

Everyone, I am proud to introduce a new version of Joon Bear, TWSSG Joon Bear.
I have been putting all of my mind and energy into TWSSG Bear because of all the love that you have given to Winter Sonata and April Snow Joon Bears.
Even though creating TWSSG Joon Bear delayed the opening of Joanne Studio a little bit, I am so happy that we will all be able to enjoy TWSSG Joon Bear together sometime soon.

I made TWSSG Joon Bear by getting inspirations from images of TWSSG’s Damduk.
I tried to express his soft yet strong charismatic images on this bear.
This bear represents a generosity of Damduk who would forgive even a man who is an enemy and a bravery of Damduk who would risk his life and fight for the woman that he loves.
I hope that you will enjoy and share all of the inspirations and feelings that I received from watching TWSSG.

Completing Joanne Studio is right on schedule.
I wish that we will all have a chance to see each other in Jeju oncoming May.
Joanne Studio is not only an exhibition of my bears, but it is also a place where we can all meet and share our feelings.

In autumn of 2003, IMX had launched “Bae Yong Joon’s Japan official site” in desire to answer to the request that “we want to have a place where we can talk about Bae Yong Joon”.

It is already 4 years since then, there were so many incidents that we cannot fully express in words.

There were days when we had monitored the board till midnight. Unexpected comments surprised us. We were moved to tears from warm kindness. We spent unforgettable time together filled with laughter, tears and excitement.

Joanne Studio

There is a tangerine orchard beside two-lane roadway at Jungmun of province Jeju.
The orchard with the sea in front of it and the mountain Hallasan behind it,
contains somewhat high hill in its middle,
where pine trees have lived for a long time enclosed the other fruit trees.

Architecture communicates with earth.
It can only harmonize with nature if it should adapt itself to topography
and soil of earth on which it should be built.
It leans against on the high side and looks down the low side.
It can be a good architecture to see through the order of things embraced by the earth
when it see the earth with the affection toward even a stone which rolls on it.
A garden of secret has existed already in it with fifty pine trees over 100 years, moss and stonewall of black rough stones of Jeju.


In the cozy nest enclosed by pinetrees,
a studio for needleworked dolls comes into being.
The hero to make this studio built in this area with a fine view is “Joon Bear”,
teddy bear of Korean famous actor Yong-Joon Bae who has tremendous popularity in Japan. IMX (Interactive Media Mix), Japanese management company to which Yong-Joon Bae belong has sold “Joon Bears” limited to 5,000 in 2005.
This studio is born in Jeju close to Japan with a view to provide a space for Japanese who come in
and go out Korea in order to care for their “Joon Bear”.

In general, it is certain that designer plans a human-oriented space.
Therefore, modern design contains human-engineering in its field and attached importance to it.
When I visited this site which comes in contact with the sea on the south and touches with mountain range of Hallasan to the north,
I could meet the wind to flow between a block of rock and pine trees.
I thought the flowing wind could be conscious or unconscious just like the living human-being.
Also it could be either vector to have size and direction or scalar to lose direction, and either regular traffic line to move intentionally or disorder to flow thoughtlessly.
I intended to create an architectural space as a setting for behavior between human and nature,
sea and mountain, with the continuous space where either human or wind can flow ceaselessly,
the organic space with obscure boundary between in and out, and the gapped space between line and wall or wall and wall.

Because Jeju is a province rich in wind, stone and woman, the architectural concept to harmonize with wind, nature and Japanese woman fan looks attractive and interesting.

Free promenade connected along stonewall 1.2 meters long which makes the border of site 2,000m2 wide, encloses the mass of architecture.
Void space in the middle of mass can be the stairs to move perpendicularly from the lower part to higher part and a small-scaled outdoor stage spontaneously.
Also it is a main transfer space and open frame of whole architectural mass,
where the sea and the mountain Hallasan communicate with each other and the wind crosses.
Generally, walls partition the functional spaces in architectural structure.
However, traffic line such as corridor and stairs can also create the unexpected space and make the other spaces look more interesting.


Artificial structure to accept wind and light seems to need some delicate systems and appearances.

Interior and exterior materials are on the basis of natural materials.
Ceiling and walls are finished with exposed concrete and lumber, and outer wall finished with oxidized copper plate in dark gray harmonizes with a mass of zinc.
Wall of open space is finished with rough granite in gray, of which natural light and artificial light of ceiling reveal the rough materiality visually.
We can have the sense of material as a component of space through the visual recognition
and tactile recognition, and it has an affect on the style and the quality of space.
Also, light makes doers recognize a space, expands or reduce it,
and leads them to traffic line by inducing their psychology.
Adding to these, it creates the new power beyond the primary function of space.

It has been a while, how are you?

I understand that you have been so concerned about condition of Bae Yong Joon’s injury.
He has been continuing his rehabilitation, since it is making good progress he is able to move much better now.
I like to note my appreciation to everyone who is praying for Bae Yong Joon’s full recovery.

Coming March 6th is already ‘keichitsu.’ It means awakening time for frogs, it shows that animals come out of hibernation and spring is coming.
Bitterly cold winter is over, let’s wait for the warm spring to come soon.

In the meantime, please take care.

keichitsu: It is a solar term according to solar calendar. A year is divided to 4 seasons; spring, summer, autumn and winter, and each season is divided into 6, in all there are 24 solar terms.

Kim PD's talk show in Tokyo

dear bae family,

As you may have heard, Kim PD is visiting Tokyo for promotion of TWSSG.
He had dinner at Gosireh with Mr. Joe Hisaishi on 25 February, and
yesterday(26 February) there was a talk show at a cinema in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

A kind bae sister, yunyon has shared the details of the show at our circle yesterday.
She has given me permission to share it with everyone.
It seems that show turned out to be praising of Yong Joon.

I went to Wald9 and listened to Kim PD’s talk show today.^^

The talk show took place after TWSSG episode 12 was shown.
Stage was set up in front of the screen.
Kim PD walked down the aisle from back seat and showed up on stage!
He actually watched epi.12 with us.

First emcee introduced his profile and Kim PD greeted in Japanese,
“I am Kim Jong Hak.”

the show proceeded as emcee asked questions and Kim PD gave answers to them.
Here are list of things Kim PD said;


Today, as I was watching TWSSG on this big screen here,
I somewhat feel that there were some other ways of shooting.


Yong Joon-ssi is a person who always seeks to be perfect.
Even I, as director said okay to a scene, he always asks to shoot ‘one more time.’
If I were more handsome and good looking, I would rather take his place and do the acting.
Actually, in today’s episode 12, there was a scene where Damdeok and Suzini was drinking together.






We did re-shoot this scene one week before the airing because
YJ could not fully empathize with Damdeok the first time.


At later shootings YJ was injured badly, it was difficult for him to move at all,
he should have been treated right away or else it may have affected his future activities.
We were even talking about rewriting the script to continue shooting,
Yong Joon-ssi said he would finish the shooting himself even if this means killing himself.
All the staff were moved to hear this.


Yong Joon-ssi wishes to be a director, and he has experienced being a staff himself.
He understands about shooting staffs and he calls everyone by their names.


There were very difficult times during the shooting I almost felt like giving it all up,
but support from Japanese fans greatly encouraged us to continue shooting.


In Korea, TWSSG is loved by not only by Yong Joon-ssi’s fans but loved by so many people.
In Japan, drama starts in April at NHK’s regular channel,
I hope that TWSSG will be loved by many people as well as Yong Joon-ssi’s fans.


Yong Joon’s injury is recovering well, we will visit Japan together in near future!

(fans were not allowed to take photos).
He was very cute.^^

a nurse working at International Clinic (Dr. Eugene AKSENOFF) in Tokyo.
The title of the book "Sora-tobu Naasu" is "Flying Nurse" in Japanese,
as Ms. YAMAMOTO also works as an escorting nurse and flies all over the world.

Yon-sama’s Korean Lesson

The story goes back when TV drama "Winter Love Song" was making a great hit in Japan,
when Yon-sama (Bae Yong Joon) was making his first visit to Japan.

Afternoon consultation time had just started after lunch break,
we received a phone call from one hotel.
"You rather have drip infusion? At eight o’clock tonight?"
Doctor is still holding the phone in his hand,
he gave a quick glance to me asking "will you be available tonight?"
He confirms my nod and finishes the phone by answering to the other end,
"I will be there with the nurse."

"They said it’s a famous Korean star."
I remembered watching TV this morning.
They were reporting a story that there were thousands of fans gathering at Narita Airport to get one look of the famous star.
The patient must be Yon-sama.
I had watched "Winter Love Song" on DVD, and BYJ was man in the spotlight,
anything he does receives a lot of publicity in the media.

After finishing the consultation at clinic,
I prepared the kit for drip infusion and left for hotel with the Doctor.
In front of the hotel, there were hundreds of women fans sitting and waiting for Yon-sama to come out.
At first floor cafeteria, we dined and waited for the time to come.
It was 15 minutes before the appointed time, manager of the hotel came to get us.
We walked down the classy carpet hall way,
Doctor talked to the manager as we got on the elevator.
"Hotel seems to be having hard time. There are so many people waiting outside."
"That’s true. The hotel is fully booked, fans must have made the reservation.
Thanks to everyone, we are having a busy time."

There is staff standing at the elevator and in front of the room.
We were taken into a large suite.
On right, there was a big table with 10 seat, staff from Korea were dining there.
Center of the room was filled with presents and flowers which were probably sent from fans, TV stations and publishers.
At left side, there was a large living room with big sofa and big screen TV.

We waited for a while, and then he appeared accompanied by a young Korean translator.
It is Yon-sama.
His hair looked great in Yon-sama style, BYJ was wearing fresh clean white shirt.
"Hajimemashite" (note: "nice to meet you." In Japanese)
Yon-sama greets us in Japanese.
We sat on a sofa near by.
After the greeting, Yon-sama spoke in Korean, and translator talked to us in Japanese.
"I am not sick, but I am too busy I do not have enough time to sleep everyday.
I am very tired, please give me drip infusion so that I could get some power back."





I checked temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
Doctor listened to chest with a stethoscope and checked BYJ’s throat with a penlight.
There was no problem, so I started to get ready for the infusion.
I asked Yon-sama to pull up sleeves.
I noticed there were traces of internal bleeding from injection on both his arms.
BYJ is telling translator something in Korean.
"He is saying, please be careful not to leave any needle-scar."
"Let’s try it on the thick blood vessel at inner side of right elbow."
Listening to my description from the translator, BYJ seemed to be convinced with it.
But now, I am getting nervous about the whole situation.
If I fail and leave any scars on him, how am I going to apologize to the fans waiting outside the hotel.
With alcohol swab I sterilized his arm, checked flexibility of his vessel and needled him.
Red blood refluxed to the route, I could confirm that needle was in the blood vessel.
Drip infusion started safely.





Doctor talked to BYJ,
"I don’t watch TV so I really do not know the situation, but there are so many fans waiting for you outside the hotel.
You must be really busy."
"TV shooting is very hard.
Actually, I was hospitalized until three days before I came to Japan.
And, I was receiving drip infusion before I was hospitalized.
By the way, this is a secret to the media."

According to the translator, Yon-sama is very fond of Japan, and he appreciates Japanese fans.
Even though he is very busy, he has been studying Japanese,
he could write most of hiragana and katakana characters.
"That is wonderful. But please take good care of yourself,"
Translator must have translated what I have said,
BYJ answered to me in Japanese, "Daijobu-desu."
(note: "I am all right" in Japanese)




Then for a while, BYJ taught me some Korean phrases (including pronunciation) beginning with "I am all right."
I still cannot believe it, I am getting Yon-sama’s Korean lesson!!
What’s more, a private lesson!!!
How much will this cost me, if I were to be charged with a lesson fee?
I had pledged that I would never forget these phrases, but I really lack self-discipline and forgot it all now.
I should have written it down on a paper.

After finishing the treatment, we left the room leaving a message for BYJ,
"Please sleep well, eat well and get your power back."
I think it was already passed 10 o’clock when I left the hotel and got on a taxi.
There were still so many fans waiting for him in the cold.

I wonder how many years have passed since then.
I have not had a chance to meet Yon-sama after that.
When I hear any news of BYJ, whether it is news of his visit to Japan or news on new photo book,
I still recall that day when we made the house call.

There is more to the story, after returning home few days later,
Yon-sama was hospitalized after break down from excessive hard work.
I admire him for all the best he do for his work and for his Japanese fans.

I should do my best to share Rumi-chan’s Smile to patients of our clinic, just like Yon-sama does.

It is very cold every day, I’m concerned that you are not catching cold.

Recent-days, Bae Yong Joon is meeting his close friends, resting at home and concentrating on his treatment.
Thanks to everyone, his physical condition is getting much better, please feel relieved.

Korea will be having New Year’s holidays soon (lunar new year).
Indeed, many people go back home for the holidays, people even call it “Great Ethnic Movement.”

Myself and staff at office will temporary halt our busy daily work and plan to enjoy our new year holidays.
I will be visiting my relatives and will spend some time with everyone.

I will refresh myself and with good feelings I will send my greetings again after the new year.
